Buildings For People
Through its subsidiaries Curlew Alternative Asset Management (“CAAM”) creates high quality buildings for people to live in. We believe that where you live should make a positive contribution to your lifestyle not just shelter you from the elements. We provide communities with modern, safe, sustainable, well-serviced and comfortable homes.
CAAM recognises its sustainability obligations to its employees, tenants, service providers, investors and stakeholders, and to future generations.
The real estate industry has a tremendous environmental and social impact and has a clear role to play in the mitigation of environmental issues in a global context. Our policies are designed to provide a set of tools and practices that will help us stay in line with and exceed where possible the industry’s Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) best practices, its investors’ requirements and relevant legal requirements.
We have developed policies and procedures to follow while conducting operations:
In alignment with our policies, we ensure that all Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) matters are considered and supported in our operations and administration, and are consistent with CAAM stakeholders’ best interests.
Beyond our own policies we are signatories to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI), the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), and are members of the British Property Federation.
We recognise that our operations have an impact on the environment and that we are part of an industry that is a major contributor to global emissions. We will continue not only to meet relevant legal obligations but also, where possible, do better than the minimum requirements in order to reduce our environmental impact during construction and operation.
Our environmental policy is a key part of our CSR strategy and integral to our long term business plan. Environmental issues are a key risk factor of our industry and reducing our environmental impact is expected by our investors, shareholders and other stakeholders.
We strive to identify, manage and reduce our environmental impact in both our operations and our supply chain. We continuously review and disclose our environmental impact through our annual Sustainability Report, the UN Global Compact Communication on Progress (COP) and the Real Estate industry-focused, Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (“GRESB”) survey.
CAAM is committed to providing equal opportunities in all aspects of employment and do not engage in or tolerate unlawful workplace conduct including discrimination, intimidation, or harassment.
We ensure that all CAAM employees, as well as all our Service Providers’ employees, are treated fairly and with dignity and consideration for their goals and aspirations and that diversity in the workplace is embraced.
We apply fair labour practices and enforce fair labour practices through our Service Providers, while respecting the national and local laws of the countries and communities where we operate
We do not tolerate human rights abuses and do not engage in, and are not complicit in, any activity that solicits or encourages human rights abuse.
We understand the limited level of influence we have given the size of our business and of our team, as well as the level of control we can exercise on sustainability issues. Nevertheless, we are committed fully to play our part in addressing the world’s sustainability challenges.
CAAM conducts its business with integrity and transparency and we are committed to apply the highest standards of ethical conduct and integrity to our business activities. Every employee and individual acting on behalf of CAAM is responsible for conducting business honestly and professionally. We benefit from carrying out business in a transparent and ethical way and by helping to ensure that there is honest, open and fair competition in our industry. We do not tolerate any form of bribery by, or of, our employees or any persons or companies acting on our behalf. CAAM will not conduct business with service providers, agents or representatives that do not support the CAAM anti-bribery and corruption objectives.
With regard to our non-financial performance, we publish an annual sustainability report based on the GRI guidelines and submit to GRESB survey.
We also publish an annual Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory report based on the GHG Protocol so that we can measure and improve our environmental impact.
To reinforce our commitment to sustainable development, we are signatories to the United Nations Global Compact (“UNGC”), the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (“UNPRI”), and we will be reporting on progress annually.
Supply Chain & Service Providers
Since our own direct impact is limited, most of our environmental and social impact results from our supply chain, service providers and contractors conducting operations on our behalf.
It is our policy to require all major suppliers, service providers and contractors to sign our Service Providers Policy & Code of Conduct. This will ensure that all our sustainability policies are adhered to by those working on our behalf.
We believe that Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) matters are essential for long-term value creation. Our ESG due diligence process allows us to integrate these issues in our investment strategy and to invest responsibly.
CAAM aims to offer superior investment returns to its investors while upholding the highest standards of integrity and acting in a way that enhances the reputation of the industry.
In keeping with our core values, we consider that investment in or from companies involved in the following industries/sectors are not in the best interest of CAAM or its stakeholders:
Investment in these sectors will therefore be prohibited to CAAM, its subsidiaries and we will not engage with Service Providers involved within these industries.
